@gloscc I just reported a problem on @fixmystreet www.fixmystreet.com/report/738731The streetlight in front of Chequer's Community Center, right by the bus stop, is broken (top of the picture, beyond the regularly illegally parked SUV).

Tweeted a report of a streetlight that won't turn off to @gloucestercity: www.fixmystreet.com/report/747390Edit: noticed that I tweeted the first report to the county council. Generally, streetlighting is a city council matter, as I learned when I had to drag a map of all lights in the ward out of them. It doesn't matter. The FixMyStreet report goes to the right place, or should do. I'll have to check if the first one was fixed.

More than two weeks later, and that light, on a main road going into the city, hasn't been fixed yet.

Although being reminded via Twitter seems to have jogged people into action, they still don't know which light to fix, despite the very clear FixMyStreet report (and they can't even get my name right, or appreciate that the problem is an 'onage', not an 'outage')...
Sent to me one hour ago:
Dear Mr Kilkier Thank you for reporting the street light outage on Painswick Road. Please can you email me with the location of the light so that I can raise an order to repair it. Kind regards Catherine Cantwell Street Lighting Team

An enquiry has been received for the street lighting service.

The city council are happy enough to save money on lights that don't use up electricity, but the reverse can't be true. Location: street light on Painswick road, Gloucester Additional Comments: Easting: Northing: Customer Name: Joe Kilkier Customer Phone: Customer Email: ********@aol.com Customer Post Code: Method: Telephone
Kind regards,
Amey
Now, I know that locating broken lights are a problem for the council, because they don't like to hang around til dark to see which ones need fixing, but a light that stays on during the day should be a breeze, since I've pinpointed it to a matter of metres on the map.
And the broken light reported on the Fifth has been completely missed, it seems.

Incidentally, I was right the first time, about the county being responsible for street lighting, although it's still unclear as to which department of Amey is responsible for the actual work. I'm making a habit of confusing the two councils, which is why I think unifying them can only be an improvement, as there seems to be no logic behind who does what, and they're supposed to be working more closely because of these 'efficiency savings', anyway.

The streetlight was finally fixed outside Chequers, with the county council claiming, through Amey, that Western Power were responsible. There are still three broken lights looking onto a small roundabout beside Widden Primary School, one of which I reported in November, 2014. I don't know who the council or Amey will blame for that, but I intend to find out... Don't leave reporting road problems to others, says Gloucestershire County Council

Two of the lights, outside Widden School, were fixed. The third, which is bolted to the side of a building on the other side of the roundabout, is still broken, months later. It seems no-one else will report these things, in that area at least.
A lot of work has just started around the street light outside Chequers (there were three transit vans there a few days ago), so maybe it's going to be fixed properly this time.
